Rage! Rage against the dying of the campaign!
Hillary is a fighter, as you may have heard.
Today, her campaign hinted that they will consider the possibility of suing over the system by which delegates are selected in Texas.
In fairness, Texas does have a system that is somewhat unusual. There is a primary election which selects two-thirds of delegates. Then, everyone who voted in that primary is eligible to attend a caucus as soon as the polls close to select the final third of delegates. The system was adopted, quite consciously, as an attempt to give deference to the general public while rewarding the activists.
The Obama campaign has been doing a considerable amount of work to education people on this process. They’ve even creatively nicknamed it “the Texas two-step.”
Given that Bill Clinton ran for president not once, but twice under the exact same system, you’d think Hillary would have noticed before now if there were any legitimate cause for complaint. But, you see, the issue isn’t legitimate cause at all. It’s simply a complaint.
Should Hillary’s campaign not succeed on Tuesday in sweeping the delegates, by suing, Hillary cast doubts on the results and may gain a few more days of donations. This is about fundraising, building a war chest, and paying the bills.
It is also, certainly, not good for the Party.
Shame on you, Hillary. Shame on you. You should run a campaign consistent with your dignity and love of the values of the Democratic Party. Or, perhaps that’s exactly what you are doing?
