Hillary not qualified to be a Democrat

I know it has been a tough race. God knows, it has been hard enough for us who’ve only had to watch it. I can’t imagine the pressures and pains of being a candidate in the process. However, there are some things that pressure, desperation, and frustration just cannot excuse.

“I think that I have a lifetime of experience that I would bring to the White House,” Clinton said during a press conference this morning at a Toledo hotel. “I know Sen. McCain has a lifetime of experience that he would bring to the White House, and Sen. Obama has a speech he gave in 2002.” — Columbus Dispatch, 3/3/2008

As Rachel Maddow said on MSNBC’s Countdown last night, this is the kind of thing you say when you are running to be John “W” McCain’s Vice-President, not when you are running against a fellow democrat for the nomination of your party.

If either of the readers of this blog are in a state that has yet to vote and if either of you are undecided, then let this guide you. Clinton’s say anything, do anything, be anything just to win approach does not speak well of her chances of showing herself to be a candidate of substance and force. Nor does it suggest she will have the courage and fortitude required of a truly great American president.

I know it seems like I’m Hillary-bashing these days and that makes me rather sad. I once shook her hand and told her, with great sincerity, that I’d rather vote for her than her husband. And I do think she has a great deal to offer. But the time is not right. The moment is not hers. The desire for hope, the longing for change, the need for a leader who inspires has lead people elsewhere.

Instead of destroying her own party in order to fulfill her desires, Hillary should show the grace and wisdom of a true statesperson. If she does not yet believe it is time to step aside, then at least avoid writing the talking points for the opposition in the general election.

Again, Hillary, I have to say it. Shame on you! Shame on you, Hillary Clinton!

Your turn to snark!
